3 Signs I was Always Going to Get Here

Hello and welcome to my blog! Here I will give regular tips and insights into creating effective training, efficiently organizing information, delivering engaging presentations, and more. But first, let’s get to know each other a little better. Here are three fun facts about me:

I put spine labels on all my books as a child.

It’s no surprise that I love well organized information. After all, I spent over a decade as a librarian. However, the writing was on the wall long before I applied to grad school. When I was in elementary school, I decided that alphabetizing my books was not enough, and created spine labels for all of my books. I used up an entire roll of adhesive tape from the bathroom closet to do it. Sorry, Mom.

I’ve trained people on all 6 permanently inhabited continents.

Sadly, this doesn’t mean that I’ve traveled to all of these continents. (Yet.) Online training was already a widely used option before 2020, but with the pandemic it became the only option, at least for a long while. Thanks to the wonders of the internet, I created and presented software training to multicultural audiences in Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia, and North and South America. If only that came with frequent flier miles.

I wrote an award-winning musical when I was in the third grade.

I have always loved engaging an audience. Usually that means performing onstage, but when I was nine years old, I wrote a play called The Magical Baby for a school assignment. It was even a musical (although it only had one song). My third grade teacher decided the class should put on a performance of The Magical Baby, so the show also served as my directorial debut. And, yes, it won an award – a schoolwide writing contest. Maybe it’s time to revive The Magical Baby for the Broadway stage – what do you think?

What  is a fun fact about you that offers a glimpse into who you are and what you care about? I want to know, so please comment below!

  1. My most recent fun fact: In 2023 I hiked the Camino de Santiago in northern Spain (ok, only the last 120km, but still)…

  2. I hiked the Appalachian Trail (~2200 miles) from Georgia to Maine in 2023. My fun fact is that my trail name was Jukebox Jill because I never stopped singing and I carried a backpacker guitar the whole way to learn how to play!
